What is Water The Future about?
When people hear that we need to take care of water they disregard it because it's a resource that is given to us and we know that 70% of the world consists of water. However, out of this 70% only 3% is freshwater. Also, two-thirds of that is frozen in glaciers. Humans need freshwater to survive, yet we only have access to drink less than 1% of Earth's water.
Globally, nearly 2.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water in their homes and about 4.4 billion lack access to proper sanitation, putting them at risk of disease. Bad water kills 4,000 children a day! These deaths have come down significantly over the last decade, from 1.2 million per year in 2000 to about 760,000 a year in 2011. You may be asking yourself "In what do we waist most water on?" The answer is ELECTRICITY. Believe it or not we consume most of our water through our electricity. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency: 1 kWh or thermoelectric generation = 25 Gallons of Water THUS, 40watts=1gallon of water Different light bulbs burn different amounts of water, for example: Watts per light bulb compared to 60watts per hour: INC: 60watts= 1.5gals of water/hour CFL: 12watts= 0.35gal of water/hour LED: 8watts= 0.2gal of water/hour |
